Today, Cars.com is excited to kick-off its second-annual employee Hackathon. Over the course of three days, teams of employees compete to develop innovative solutions to benefit both dealers and car shoppers. Building on last year’s event, which saw great ideas for new mobile features, enhanced search functionality and even adding augmented reality to the Cars.com mobile app, this year’s Hackathon is set to raise the bar even higher.
Many organizations have embraced Hackathons, originally developed in the tech sector, as a way to learn from employee experience and promote creative, collaborative thinking. For example, last year Facebook and Ford teamed up for the SYNC Hackathon, which helped integrate new technology into Ford vehicles. While rooted in programming and software development, collaborative events like Hackathons can also translate to other areas of an organization, such as improving internal processes or brainstorming ideas to better serve customers. The key is simply for individuals work together to achieve a common goal.
